Introduction

Assalaamu Alaikum All,

I believe in speaking things into existence. So I am claiming the title of "Muslimah Scholar" in honor of my quest to become just that.

I have studied for years on my own. But I've been told, "you're not a scholar until a scholar, or a sheik says you're a scholar", ie, getting a certificate from them or "Ijaza".

So ofcourse I looked into it, and like most thing, it could take several more years of study on top of the 20 that I've already put in to become who I am today:

Almost 30, Single mother, college graduate who works as a temp (or freelance) as I prefer to call it, while trying to get my production company off the ground, seeking to tell the story of Muslim people all over the world, InshAllah.

We'll see where this goes, but InshAllah, it will go very far, and beyond my wildest dreams both in this world, and in the next. Ameen.

as salaamu alaikum sister. thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. insha Allah, i will add you to my bloglines so that i can keep track of your posts. insha Allah, your desire for and inclination toward scholarship will be rewarded by Allah (swt). it's never too late to earn that ijaza, especially if you are under 30. zaytuna has a seminary program that be of interest and they have at least two female students that i know of, alhamdulillah.

Wow, Assalamu Alaikum Sisters, this is really cool. I thought I would get an email or something letting me know if people commented. But I guess I just really have to be on it.

Alhamdullilah, ...blogs... another way Allah is bringing Muslims around the world together!

And thank you Muslimahlocs for the Zaytuna info. I had come across their info before, but couldn't really figure out how to make it work living in LA.

But, with technology being the wave of the future, maybe they have some kind of distance learning program.

InshAllah, I'll do a post about my findings.

as salaamu alaikum. zaytuna does offer distance learning classes but they are geared toward a general audience and not part of their seminary program. seminary students can also take classes at cal and the goal is to become a graduate theological seminary, insha Allah.
you might try american open university. they offer degree programs online in islamic studies (http://www.open-university.edu/).
do let us know what else you find. we can all benefit from the information, insha Allah.
